The new school year in Slovakia marks the beginning of a period for many families with buying notebooks, packing lunches, and planning for the first days of school. How is the school year going in India?

While the school year for children in Slovakia starts in September, in India it is already in full swing. Children there start school in May and remain in school until March, with breaks during Christmas and typical Indian holidays.

The first letters are learned in kindergarten

The first step is a nursery or kindergarten, where children learn the basics of reading, writing, and counting in a playful way.

Then children move on to primary school, which is divided into two levels – lower (grades 1 to 4) and upper (grades 5 to 7). Here they learn everything from languages to mathematics, natural and social sciences.

After primary school children continue at secondary school. It lasts three years and it is the time when students begin to specialize and prepare for the future. At the end of the 10th grade, they take final exams, which are an important step on the path to higher education or professional courses.

What is next after high school?

After graduating from high school, some students continue at pre-university education, which lasts two years. During this period, they choose a specialization – arts, business or natural sciences. If they aspire to a university education, they can earn a bachelor’s degree in three years, continue on to a master’s degree or even a doctorate.

The Children Donation Project helps children from poor families gain access to education that they would otherwise not have. For example, 295 children attend primary school at the Sadhana Center, where they can learn and develop their skills thanks to support from Slovakia.

Our thanks go to all, who help children abroad. Your support brings children more than just a hope for a better future. Thanks to you, they can meet new people with whom they will build friendships for life. Become part of the project and adopt a child from India.
