Goal of the project: Drugs and laboratory reagents for HIV positive patients
Help sum: 7 725€
Child centre/organisation: HIA –Health Initiatives Association, Uganda
Date: February – March 2020
Small projects of Children’s Donation Project have originated, so we could help children with their education, poverty and difficulties of everyday life.
There is 633 patients still registered at the Child HIV clinic of John Paul II. In Buikwe. The number of patients is rising every year (there was 528 patients in 2019). Through global funds, we can provide them HIV treatment for free. However, when imunity decreases, the patients often get opportunistic infections. The treatment of these infections is financially very difficult and our patients aren’t capable to pay for their own medication. While taking this treatment, that can have adverse effects, it is necessary to check on laboratory parameters, such as blood count, kidney and liver function tests and screenings of any other infectious diseases.
Through this project in value of 7 725€, we could provide medication and laboratory reagents for our small HIV positive patients and other children with chronic dissabilities. Drugs with the value of 5 000€ will suffice for approximately 6 months. The purchase of these medications consists of 50% antibiotics and antimalarials, 20% antipyretics and painkillers, 20% vitamins and supportive care and 10% others. We assume, that these drugs will cover complex treatment of 350 infectious disease event (treatment of opportunistic infections or malaria) and supportive vitamin therapy to improve imunity for 200 patients. Other medication will be used for treatment of other non-infectious events, such as stomach ache, allergies, menstrual pain, treatment of diabetes, sickle cell anemia etc. Our children don’t have health insurance and most of them can’t buy medication. That’s also the reason why we want to thank you very much for this support of our smallest.
Thanks to the help of the project Children’s Donation Project through the program Small projects, we had beautiful and joyful days at the Clinic of John Paul II. In the town of Buikwe.
