Sometimes we receive a beautiful painting or a nice letter from Kazakh children. It always makes us and the donors happy to see each original. While reading the letters and enjoying paintings from Kazakhstan, you can always sense the gratitude for the help provided by Slovaks.

We are currently supporting 110 children and students in Kazakhstan. All of them come from destitute families. For many people, the situation in Kazakhstan is very though. Parents are often unemployed and cannot feed their children.  Many families struggle with alcohol problems, and children regularly end up in foster homes, or they are brought up by their grandparents. In cooperation with Caritas Kazakhstan, we support the education of indigent children, which gives them a chance to improve their living conditions from a long-term perspective. A lot of Kazakh children are educationally underdeveloped, and if a problem in the family occurs, for example, addiction of a parent, they have no one from the family to support them. Besides teaching, courses and tutoring, finances are also spent on food, medicine, clothing and shoes. Children are often without proper housing, and their relatives are reluctant to help them.

For this reason, social workers of Caritas Kazakhstan try to create suitable conditions for their development. Together with volunteers, they secure the distribution of material aid, tutoring, help with homework and develop skills via leisure activities. We also admit children from foster home into our project.
