An everyday fight for survival

The coordinator father Paul Le Phuoc Thien and his coworker Maria Bich Diem from Caritas Vietnam visited a girl Bui Thi Kim Loan and her family. Read a bit of Loan’s story:

“Loan is 13 years old, and she has been engaged in the Children’s donation project since the end of 2016. She lives with her mother and brother. Loan has two more siblings. The oldest brother is already married, and her older sister is in a city, taking a hairdresser course. Their father abandoned them when Loan was only one year old. They live together in a house in Binh Phuoc province, provided by a local charity organization of diocese Phu Cuong. This house consists only of two rooms: a living room and a kitchen. As you can see, they live in very modest conditions. Her family found themselves in a tough financial situation. Mother cannot work, and due to her accidents at work has nearly gone blind. Their diet consists mostly of instant pasta, provided by the parish, and grown beans in the garden. The primary source of family income is the sale of latex milk from rubber trees, which grow in the garden behind the house. Unfortunately, it isn’t a gainful activity. Because of their unfortunate situation, they got a cow thanks to the “Desire to Live” program, which will help them a bit to improve their challenging living conditions.”

This is just one of many stories about poverty, which affects many Vietnamese families. We are glad that thanks to you and Slovak donors, our project can support Loan and other impoverished children in education and give them a brighter vision for the future.
