Project goal: Warm blankets and hygiene supplies for 110 kids in Zabolottii
Help in amount: 4000€
Children’s centre/organization: Caritas-Spes Luck, Ukraine
Date: October – November 2023
“Small projects” of Adopcia na diaľku® (Children’s Donation Project) were created to help kids to deal with their education, poverty, and the difficulties of everyday life.
It is impossible to prepare for a war. It is hard to imagine all the sadness and cruelty, that war brings to people, mainly to kids. The war in Ukraine is on-going for more than two years already. However, in the east regions of country it is way longer, since 2014. Father Pavlo Khomiak is director of Caritas-Spes in the city of Luck and he is our partner in project Adopcia na diaľku® (Children’s Donation Project). Together we have implemented sever project called “Malé projekty” (Small project) in the past. Thanks to these projects, kids from orphanage had new quilts, pillows, and bed sheets. Also, parents received boxes of milk for their kids. After milk farms bombing, milk became a scarce food in many of Ukrainian regions.
At the end of September, Father Pavlo asked for help with buying warm blankets and hygiene items. These basic things were missing for 110 kids at a boarding school in the village of Zabolottia, located five kilometres south of the Belarusian border. “The worst is to see the fear and anxiety in children’s eyes, who ended in the situation without love, support, and care from parents. Kids in boarding school in Zabolotii are orphans, whose parents died, or kids, whose parents were deprived of parental rights because they could not take care of them, “Father Pavlo explained the situation in boarding school for us. With his team and group of volunteers, they regularly take care of children living in several boarding schools and orphanages.
Father Pavlo wrote about the current situation: “Experience has taught us to believe in the best and to prepare for the worst. Several times a day, sirens are going on, which means we immediately must go to the bomb shelters. It is the worst at night, when is necessary to wake up all kids and take them quickly to the bomb shelter. They are cold and without electricity. Children are sleeping, sitting, and waiting, when they will be able to come back to the warm beds. Although they know from a very early age, what is loneliness, abandonment, and injustice. Thanks to the people as you, the world is full of good deeds, and gives hope in the most difficult moments to all these kids.”
At the end, he doesn’t forget the kindness of donors: “Sincerely, thank all donors from Slovakia, who are not indifferent to the fate of these abandoned kids. Please accept my thanks on behalf of all the kids from boarding school in Zabolotti. God bless you all.“
